Mallinckrodt Center has three venues available for use, including the Edison Theatre, the Annelise Mertz Dance Studio, and the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theater.

The Edison Theatre

Edison serves as a teaching facility for the WashU Performing Arts Department, which stages three mainstage productions each year and hosts performances by Washington University student organizations.

As one of St. Louis’ most unique spaces, the Edison also plays a vital role in the region’s artistic community, hosting events from premiere companies like The Black Rep, Ballet 314 and St. Louis Academy of Dance.

Edison Theatre is available for rent to WashU organizations and student groups, as well as non-WashU organizations. Events at Edison Theatre are often booked 12 months prior to performances. Availability for the current season is extremely limited.

Edison Theatre reserves the right to deny rental requests.

Annelise Mertz Dance Studio

The Annelise Mertz Dance Studio doubles as a rehearsal and dance performance venue.

Seating up to 125 people, this informal theater features lighting capabilities, a sprung floor and a Marley overlay. The Performing Arts Department utilizes the studio for classes, rehearsals, and performances.

The Annelise Mertz Dance Studio measures 61′ (L) x 36′ (W) x 14′ (H).

A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre

The intimate A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre, located in Mallinckrodt Center, is a 125-seat state-of-the-art “black box” theater.

As a dynamic and versatile performance space, the theatre is one of the premier venues for the Performing Arts Department season and is the home of the annual A.E. Hotchner Playwriting Festival.

The A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre measures 60′ (L) x 28′ (W) x 14′ (H).
