Learn how to receive packages safely on campus — from addressing mail to pickup locations and tips for secure, on-time delivery.

Important Reminders

  • Always include your Mail Stop Code when shipping items to campus.
  • Letter mail will be held for 36 hours before being returned to the sender.
  • Packages are held for 90 days.
  • DO NOT use delivery options that include entering a code upon delivery.
  • Perishable packages left unclaimed for 24 hours will be disposed of. Our facilities do not possess refrigeration capabilities.
  • Avoid using same-day delivery services like Uber Eats or DoorDash for essential packages. These services can result in misdirected or lost items.
  • If you live on the South 40, double-check your tracking information to ensure the package is correctly addressed and delivered to the Hitzeman Mailroom.
  • DO NOT let unauthorized drivers into residence halls. Doing so creates security risks and can lead to misplaced packages.
  • Any unclaimed packages will be handled in accordance with the procedures outlined in our Unclaimed Items and Perishable Items Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if a carrier claims my package was delivered, but I haven’t received a notice from Mail Services?

Third-party vendors, such as Amazon, typically send notifications directly to customers when they have made the final delivery to campus, but that doesn’t mean Mail and Receiving Services has entered the package into the WashU Mail system yet.

Mail and Receiving Services will send you an email when your package is ready for pickup.

Where do I pick up my mail?

Students will receive an email or text notifying them if a package has been delivered to campus for them.

If you received an email or text to pick up your mail from the Hitzeman Counter or Hitzeman Packcity Lockers, please visit the Hitzeman Mail Center.

If you received an email or text to pick up your mail from the Village Counter or Village Packcity Lockers, please visit the Village Mail Center.

Lockers are open 24/7. Students can scan their WashU ID to retrieve packages from a locker any time of day or night.

If your package is behind the counter, please come during the posted hours of operation.

What is the typical turnaround time once a package reaches the campus?

Your package is usually available on the same day.  In some instances, it may take up to 24 hours.

Are the mail centers open on University Holidays?

All mail centers are closed, and mail services are unavailable on University holidays.

What should I bring to pick up my package from the Mail Center?

Students should bring:

  • Your WashU ID
  • Tracking Number
  • A description of your item
  • Your Unique Pick-Up Code (Codes are only needed for pick-up in PackCity Lockers) – Find this code in an email from noreply@sqbxmail.com, which may end up in the spam folder.
